On June 22nd – 29th, 2013 a Mission Team traveled to to the Dominican Republic, Holy Cross’s companion Diocese. The families in the community of La Barquita (a small barrio of Santo Domingo) requested Holy Cross return to help with San Pedro y San Pablo’s Vacation Bible School ~ this church serves approximately 150 youth. 2013 marked the 6th year that this Ministry has either traveled to or sent monetary assistance to their special friends in the community of La Barquita.
Returning team members helped begin construction on a new church facility on their trip to the DR in 2009. They were thrilled to travel again in 2013 to see the completed church/school that they had worked on to construct. Although the team was unable to travel in 2011 and 2012 HCFM was still able to provide monetary assistance thanks to the generous donations from members and community friends of Holy Cross Faith Memorial.
Father Wil Keith said “Traveling to a foreign environment to help others and seek God is an amazing experience and very enlightening as well as a wonderful catalyst for spiritual growth.” The team began conversations last year with Mission Team members in Charleston and hope to continue these discussions to help HCFM expand & grow our Hispanic Ministry efforts both locally and abroad.
The team is hopeful that more HCFM members and community friends will express interest in assisting with this important ministry. The possibilities are endless!
